09/03/2010   Rural housing schemes to be even better designed

Future rural housing schemes will be designed to suit their environment thanks to a grant secured by East Hampshire District Council.

EHDC has successfully bid for £15,000 from the Government to produce design guidance for rural housing developments.

The guidance will help ensure that the new housing schemes are suitable for the villages and rural areas in which they are built.

The bid was made by East Hampshire District Council on behalf of HARAH, which since 2005 has built 122 homes across rural Hampshire.

Councillor Elizabeth Cartwright, East Hampshire District Councillor and Chair of the HARAH Members Group, said: “We are delighted with our successful bid on behalf of all the local authorities involved in HARAH. The money will enable us to produce design advice which we can use to help build affordable housing schemes which are of good design and fit into the local surroundings and of which people can be proud.”

The money was made available through the Rural Masterplanning Fund set up by the Government Department, the Homes and Communities Agency. The Homes and Communities Agency has congratulated the council on its successful bid, in stiff competition against bids from 78 Local Authorities across the country.
