22/01/2010   New homes for local people in Littleton

Twelve new homes for local people in housing need have been built at Paddock View in Littleton. In a celebratory event held just before Christmas, Derek Hickman, Chair of Littleton and Harestock Parish Council led a tree-planting ceremony attended by other members of the parish council, district councillors and officers from Winchester City Council, the Rural Housing Enablers, HydeMartlet and contractors Drew Smith. The homes are built to Lifetime Homes standards and have an Eco Homes rating of ‘Very Good’.

The Hampshire Rural Housing Enablers have been working with Littleton and Harestock Parish Council since 2003, when a parish-wide housing needs survey showed a significant local need for affordable housing. The HARAH partnership has been involved since its inception in 2005.

The land at Main Road, Littleton was agreed as the best site following a comprehensive appraisal of sites. Building work started in February 2009 but was halted briefly when Winchester City Council’s archaeology officer was called in after a 16th century skeleton was discovered. Work resumed and the project completed on time in December 2009. The homes have a ‘very good’ Eco Homes rating.

Derek Hickman commented: “We are delighted to see Paddock View completed on time, in fact ahead of time, and to a very high standard. We look forward to welcoming all the new residents to Littleton and are sure they will enjoy their new homes. We hope they will like living in their village and believe that the scheme will prove to be a positive addition to the community here.”
